Why the advent of technology in our everyday lives will change the way we handle products and scrap.
Our world today is smart through and through. Smart assistants at home take away our wishes. On the way, our constant companion is the “Smartphone”. Car manufacturers are always putting more emphasis on smart features than special features to convince potential buyers.
All in all, this leads to more and more comfort for us humans, because we can outsource many things and thus can live more relaxed and easier.
However, the advent of technology and its increasing popularity mean that rare and special materials and resources are needed in immense quantities. The resources needed for products have always been so, but so far the difference has been that humans themselves have been able to grow these resources and provide for a steady supply (excluding oil).
However, the rare resources needed to produce the myriad of microchips and semiconductors look different, because they are limited.
A glimpse into the future could be to extend and complement our waste collection system to open up e-waste, own stores to dispose of old electrical appliances, and provide mobile pick-up services specifically for this purpose.
Politically, too, we could have an impact as a consumer and producer, e.g. in the form of special laws, which provide the non-resource-friendly handling of old electrical appliances with high fines.
We look forward to the future, which is getting faster and faster into our lives in our time.
