Just stop briefly at the drive-in, order, a coke to do (yes you do), straw in the device on the cup lid, eat, drink and then in the trash.
Many of us know this procedure, but soon this will change.
Getting your food in an eco-friendly paper bag is standard for all of us, as is the straw in the drink. But this very part of the order, namely the welded plastic straw, will soon disappear.
The EU plans to ban plastic disposable items, including the straw. Also affected are cotton swabs, disposable tableware, balloon holders or coffee stirrers.
Whether this aspect will significantly limit us, we doubt strongly. We think this step is good for the EU, because where unnecessary waste can be avoided, this should be done – for all of us. However, what interests us is which other alternatives will be offered to us.
Meanwhile, many start-ups are concerned, e.g. with straws made of glass, wood or recycled materials, but here there seems to be no established solution.
We are curious to see what other areas of our lives will result from environmental protection and EU decisions.
